I just saw on a post that you can not work while being a temporary resident. Is that true?

Yes that is true. Only citizens and permanent residents are allowed to work, legally. I’m sure there are others ways around it though if you know what I mean. It happens a lot in the US, so you can be sure that it happens here too.

my guess is, there are probably several thousand expats working here, without a work visa.

Be careful with someone who says “no problem” to hiring you knowing you are not yet with a work permit, they may noyt pay you correctly

You can also work in CR if you are sponsored by a CR company – they will obtain a work visa for you.
