Rio Serano Border crossing

I am planning to do a border run this Sunday, 6/18, and would like to change things up, from the usual Paso Canoas experience, by crossing at the Rio Sereno border crossing.  I’d like to take my car over the border, to visit Boquete and Volcan, then loop down through David and back to Costa Rica.

I’ve heard that I need to purchase insurance.  What is the cost?  Is there any other paperwork required?  I have my car registration and of course my passport.

Can anyone tell me of their experience taking their car, bus or taxi across the border?
