There are many good language schools. About $20 per lesson is common.

The best school is not as important as the ‘best student’. The best school cannot ‘make’ you good. You have to practice, actually practice, learn, read, stumble, be confused, re-learn, be willing to sound stupid and just keep at it. Watch TV, read the paper, look online, practice ‘OUT LOUD’. Hanging out with ex-pats and speaking English will not help. It will probably hurt. Never pass a chance to speak Spanish to a local (even if they understand English). Be willing to take a few years. Only a small part of learning the language will take place in a school; no matter how good it is.

When you learned English (or your native language) when you were one and two years old, you didn’t do it in school. You did it by being immersed in the culture and saying words and phrases every day.

¡Buena suerte!

Immersion is the only way! CPI has locations in Heredia, Flamingo, and Monteverde. They offer homestays. I did it for an 8 week period and now translate at my hospital in the US.
Great program, small classes, field trips, culture
